The Coalition for Jerusalem is a league of religious dignitaries, political factions, civil society organizations, and individuals based in Occupied Jerusalem. It is a non violent, direct action group formed in 2004 to oppose Israeli Government arbitrary measures to alter the Status of East Jerusalem in violation of International Legitimacy and Human Rights Conventions, and to reaffirm that East Jerusalem is the Capital of the future Palestinian State.

Israel detains human rights defenders

On 24 December, Jamal Jum`a underwent a hearing before a military judge at Moskobiyya Detention Center, in Jerusalem. Although Jamal"s interrogation over eight days apparently has finished, the judge granted the Israeli police and intelligence agency"s request to extend his detention for 12 more days of "investigation" before a scheduled second hearing.

This morning, the judge upheld the false premise of Jamal"s arrest as a West Bank resident, insisting that he is alien to his actual Jerusalem residence, because of his work in a Ramallah (West Bank) office. That makes Jamal the subject of Israeli military law.

The Gaza Freedom March
We invite all Jerusalemites, as well as all the civil, national and religious organizations in the city to participate in the Gaza Freedom March, which will take place this Thursday, the 31st of December at 11:00 a.m. at the Erez Checkpoint. This march will coincide with an international march from inside the Gaza Strip, which will be attended by thousands of Palestinians and internationals from all over the world.


Organized transportation to the demonstration will be provided and without any charge, meeting at 9:00 a.m. at the solidarity tent in Sheikh Jarrah.

Join the Sheikh Jarrah families in the lighting of their Christmas tree and in voicing their determination to celebrate this year and all coming years in the warmth of their homes in Sheikh Jarrah. The celebration will also include Santa Clause giving out gifts to the children.
